But messaging app Viber has gone back to the old school by copying Snapchat’s core ephemeral messaging feature. This new feature called ‘Secret Chat’ is exactly what it sounds like. You can send a custom message to your contacts, messages that will destroy themselves after a certain timer.
The feature of Snapchat is offering this special self-destruction messaging services to protect the privacy of both users. Like the Snapchat, this new feature on Viber will notify another user when you screenshot a picture or text sent by them.
Prior to this update, Viber is also stealthily taking other features from messaging platforms including an e-commerce button, public account, one-touch video calling and disappearing multimedia.
With the global messaging space pretty settled as the apps of choice have solidified their positions in most parts of the world, and Viber seems a little bit different to separate its security credentials from the rest. It added end-to-end encryption and hidden chats last year, though researchers have doubted some claims of the company.
